Design Leader · Educator · Mentor

I've spent more than 20 years on both sides of the portfolio.

I've worked as a designer, design leader, educator, hiring manager, and mentor. I've reviewed countless portfolios, taught hundreds of designers, and watched talented people undersell themselves because their portfolio didn't communicate how good they actually were.

My students have gone on to work at Apple, Google, Meta, IBM Design, Capital One, and many other Fortune 500 companies.

Testimonials

What people say about working with Won.

Won is one of those teachers who can change your life — if you let him. He changed mine. In my four weeks of working directly with Won, I've grown more as a designer than I have the past year, and I owe a lot of my progress to him. Brutally honest, constructive feedback and high expectations. He's going to tell you exactly why your design could use more work — he's not going to tell you it's good when it's not. But when he does, you know you really nailed it.

Amy Ton

Won has always been at the cutting edge of everything digital. I consider him a rare digital breed, as he possesses creative and technical skills all in one package — great design skills and a very detail-oriented eye, especially when it comes to motion. Combine that with expert-level development skills and you get Won. He is passionate about his work and will not settle for anything but perfection. If you're looking to push the envelope with your digital project or team, Won is a must.

Noel Artiles

He has high expectations and gives honest feedback, all with the intention of making those around him better designers and professionals. He’s one of those instructors who is not going to let you settle, always pushing to ensure you are producing your best work.

Megan Holman

Won is not only one of the greatest design leaders in the world, but he is also one of the most important people to learn from. I wouldn't be where I am today without having him as my mentor.

David E. Sims

Won has the very rare ability to see products at both the micro and macro level. He understands every detail and worked with our team to isolate the pieces that could be improved for maximum impact. As a leader, Won shows great respect for those he manages. His critiques are pointed and actionable, giving designers the opportunity to improve their process and skills. My continued success as an experience designer is due in large part to learning from and working alongside Won.

Rob Stone

I've never had a manager quite like Won. His ability to understand design, technology, and business holistically is rare, and it helps him lead teams and design products that push the entire company forward. With a high bar for excellence, he mentored me from someone relatively new in the field to thinking strategically about design beyond what I thought was possible. He's been a critical part of my career, and I cannot recommend him highly enough.

John Cheng

Won is a dedicated mentor who encourages quality and thoughtful design. He distills his experience with clear communication, always taking the time to show examples of design concepts. Any question related to understanding the developer side of things is always answered. Thank you, Won!

FAQ

Questions on your mind.

All sessions are live and one-on-one. Meeting notes are provided after each meeting with action items.

The Portfolio Program is built around shaping work you've already done, so it's ideal if you have at least 3 projects (client or spec) to draw from. If you only have 1 or 2, you can still sign up. Just know that the less work you bring, the less we have to shape, so interview results aren't guaranteed for lighter portfolios. Starting from zero? Ship a project or two first, then come back when you've got something to work with.

Designers at any level who can commit at least 6–8 hours a week and already have projects to showcase. Level matters less than focus, time, and material to work with.

You can get a full refund any time before your first session, and straight after your first session too, as long as you tell us before booking a second. Once you book a second session the program is not refundable, in full or in part. Separately, if you finish the program, apply everything we covered, and still aren't seeing results after 30 days, we'll personally work with you to figure out what's going on.

Eight private 1:1 sessions, plus async feedback between calls. Most people run roughly weekly across a couple of months, but we set the pace together and you can go slower when life gets in the way. It's just you and me, never a group.
